ST Engineering’s
electronics arm, ST Electronics, has been awarded contracts worth about
RMB58.8m (about S$12.8m) by Changchun Rolling Stock Company (CRC) of China
to provide Passenger Information Systems (PIS) and Security Monitoring
Systems for its project in the Saudi Mashaaer Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line
in Saudi Arabia, and a PIS for an MRT Line in China.
These contracts were awarded to ST Electronics (Shanghai), a wholly-owned
subsidiary of ST Electronics. The contracts commence immediately and work
will be completed by the second half of 2010. These contract wins bring the
total value of PIS projects awarded in China to date for ST Electronics to
over RMB100m.
Under these contracts, ST Electronics will provide system design, supply
equipment and software, install, test and commission the said systems.
These latest contracts further strengthen our track record in China for MRT
systems which now covers a full range of rail electronics solution including
PIS, Automated Fare Collection Systems, Platform Screen Doors, Integrated
Supervisory Control System and Traffic Command Centre, said Lee Fook Sun,
President, ST Electronics.
“Our overseas business units have contributed to the company’s growing
global reach of over 80 countries. As we strive to continue to grow our
international presence, contract awards such as these from CRC, affirm the
confidence that our customers have in our ability to deliver quality and
cost-effectiveness solutions,” he added.
In 2009, ST Electronics was awarded contracts to provide an Integrated
Supervisory Control System and a Platform Screen Door System for the
Guangzhou-Foshan Line and PIS for Shenzhen Line 2.
Including these contracts, ST Electronics has to date been awarded more than
10 rail projects in China, consisting of a full range of rail electronics
systems. ST Electronics’ first rail project in China in 2003 was a contract

included Automated Fare Collection (AFC) Systems for Guangzhou Line 4 in
2004; Lines 2, 8 and 4 extensions in 2006; and Line 3 in 2008.
Other rail electronics systems projects in China include PIS Systems for
Nanjing Line 2 and Shenzhen Line 1. In 2006, the company provided an
integrated Traffic Command Centre system for the rapidly growing Beijing
mass transit network, the first of its kind in China that now provides
Beijing with the benefits of an efficient centralised network-based
operation. To date, three of these projects have been completed with the
remaining projects to be delivered up till 2012.
ST Electronics was also recently awarded contracts by the Krungthep Thanakom
