Malaysian property-construction conglomerate Sunway Group is turning to on-demand applications to drive standardisation, best practices and business process transformation across its procurement operations. The move involves expanding its Ariba deployment to include Ariba Contract Management, Ariba Supplier Management and Ariba Procure-to-Order.

“In today’s challenging economy, it is not enough to just identify opportunities for savings. To be successful, we must ensure that they actually reach the bottom line,” said Dato' KL Tan, Senior Managing Director of Property & Construction Divisions, Sunway Group.

With Ariba, the Group is looking for scalability to expand and consolidate, improve transparency and create a metric-driven approach to sourcing that can deliver exponential savings and sustainable competitive advantage, he added.

Sunway’s association with Ariba, an SAP company, began in 2000 when the company implemented Ariba’s on-premise solution for managing purchase requests and purchase orders to standardise procurement on an enterprise-wide basis.  In 2009, the company embarked on its cloud journey with Ariba Sourcing and Ariba Spend Analysis to increase its visibility and drive spend compliance across more than 100 business units.

According to Sunway, the move enabled the Group to generate savings of more than RM82 million (US$25 million) across 1,000 sourcing events while improving compliance and reducing sourcing cycle times. Moving to the cloud will allow it to manage its sourcing processes more effectively by providing easy access to procurement tools and consolidating all of its procurement information across functions and divisions with less time, cost and effort, the Group said.
