Hong Kong’s Lingnan
University has boosted the capacity and security of its student services
network with Juniper Networks M-series multi-service edge routing platform.
The high-performance network infrastructure provides faculty and students
fast, reliable and secure access to the Internet and campus resources –
including coursework materials and administrative functions – from its
student hostel. The M-series router upgrades network capacity and empowers
the university to handle a wide range of IP services at scale.
The university selected the M-series router for its performance and
reliability, in addition to traffic filtering, rate control, operational
versatility and low overhead delivered by JUNOS software, a single
source-code base operating system.
“JUNOS software was the key to addressing our network requirements,” said Dr
Jeff McDonell, director of Information Technology Services Centre of Lingnan
University. “It enabled our IT team to filter traffic and control rates at
the core of our network with greater ease and flexibility.”
Constructed with clean separation between the control plane, forwarding
plane and services plane, the M-series routers support multiple services
without compromise on a single platform, therefore maximising revenue and
minimising operational and capital costs.
Research and education institutions need fast, reliable and secure networks
that empower students and faculty to be more productive and successful.
“Both the M-series router and JUNOS software deliver high-performance
infrastructure with highly available and scalable software services, ideal
for the demanding environments of higher learning organisations such as
Lingnan University,” said Eric Yu, vice president, Greater China, Juniper
Networks.
