Communications
solutions and services provider BT has been awarded a contract to operate
BASF’s wide-area data network (WAN) in the Asia-Pacific region.
BT links over 750 BASF sites in 80 countries. BASF is the world’s leading
chemical company with portfolio ranges from oil and gas to chemicals,
plastics, performance products, agricultural products and fine chemicals.
The new contract covers 17 countries with 234 sites in the Asia-Pacific
region. BASF can now access a harmonised network platform in all 80
connected countries based on the MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching)
standard, thereby guaranteeing a uniform quality of service.
“Thanks to our collaboration with BT, we only have to deal with one partner
for all 80 countries”, explains Marian-Joachim Scholtysik, responsible for
networks and telecommunications at BASF Group.
“This not only guarantees uniform technical standards and processes at all
sites, it does also substantially reduce the effort to manage the solution.”
Additionally, BASF is using BT’s IP-based MPLS network to transmit voice
calls and video data between many locations worldwide, partially using
encryption for higher data security.
