Singapore
Telecommunications (SingTel) on Friday launched its pay TV service, mio TV,
which allows subscribers to pay only for what they want to watch.
mio TV will be among the first in the world to introduce on-demand channels
to the Singapore market. This option allows viewers to choose from up to 25
selected movies for unlimited viewing for $12 per month.
The pay TV offers blockbuster movies from major Hollywood movie studios
including Sony Pictures Entertainment, MediaCorp's suite of free-to-air
channels, two brand new BBC channels, and Hong Kong's Mei Ah TV channel,
Singapore's first Cantonese movie channel.
In addition, the channels will include a line-up of HD (High Definition)
programming selected from VOOM HD Networks' 15 HD channels and the first
made-in-Singapore HD channel - Sling HD.
On the other hand, SingTel's rival StarHub has announced it will launch
HubStation, an integrated device that enables consumers to watch, surf and
talk, all at the same time.
In addition to a hard-disk recording capacity, HubStation also has an
in-built DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem, where users can connect the HubStation
directly to a personal computer or wireless router via the Ethernet port
located at the back of the device to enjoy instant and free broadband
access.
With HubStation, consumers can enjoy the capabilities of a digital video
recorder with full Smart TV recording features for StarHub Digital Cable and
Free-to-Air channels, free broadband Internet of up to 1000kbps, and access
to StarHub's Digital Voice Travel/FlexiTalk service. |
