Altiris, now part of Symantec and a provider of service-oriented management solutions, has announced the release of a significant update to Altiris Software Virtualization Solution (SVS) to help optimise software management. This new release now offers both application virtualisation and streaming for the Windows operating system including Windows Vista.

With these significant enhancements, Symantec gives customers the flexibility to install and run applications according to their unique requirements. Morton continued, "Now organisations can choose the software delivery model that works best for them and manage with confidence."

Altiris SVS now offers a unique combination of benefits including:

- increased control of software environments
- more efficient service
- reduced testing cycles and help desk costs
- improved user experience through conflict-free software operations
- true on-demand application delivery and software repair
- the flexibility to quickly move users and applications between computers
- reduced software licence costs
