Hitachi Data Systems (HDS)
has announced that it has extended its global OEM agreement with HP for
storage resource management (SRM) software. Hitachi combines HP's flagship
SRM software suite, Storage Essentials, with the company's own internally
developed software to deliver storage management services to customers. The
news mark an extension to the existing strategic worldwide partnership HDS
forged with AppIQ in 2003, prior to its acquisition by HP in late 2005.
Commenting on the announcement, Enterprise Strategy analyst Bob Laliberte
stated, "Today's news underscores Hitachi Data Systems' track record of
embracing an ecosystem of strong storage partners aligned under one common
goal, which is to satisfy customer needs. The OEM alliance is directly in
line with Hitachi's storage management software strategy to provide
customers with open-standards-based storage management solutions that align
mission-critical application availability and performance with a
heterogeneous storage infrastructure, under a common management interface."
The SRM software products based on HP software provide capabilities that are
complementary to Hitachi Data Systems' own internally-developed portfolio of
SRM, which has garnered strong customer adoption and accelerated share gains
for the company in this fast growing market space. Combining the strength
from both its vast global partner network and its established research and
development engine, Hitachi has extended the functionality and reach of the
Hitachi Storage Management Software Suite to uniquely address customer needs
for SRM, backup reporting, root-cause analysis and change management.
"HP and Hitachi are delivering innovative storage management solutions that
enable customers to more efficiently manage their storage infrastructures —
thereby driving deeper value to the business," said Bob Schultz, senior vice
president and general manager, Enterprise Storage and Software Division, HP.
"HP’s close collaboration with Hitachi will continue to drive joint revenue
opportunities for both companies in the future."
"HP's storage resource management software coupled with our own investments
in software development have enabled Hitachi to offer customers a
comprehensive open-systems SRM portfolio that provides broad platform
support for multiple operating systems and applications," said John
Mansfield, senior vice president, Global Solutions Strategy and Development,
Hitachi Data Systems.
Storage management is a key storage service delivered by HDS. Hitachi
Services Oriented Storage Solutions applies service-oriented architecture (SOA)
concepts to storage to deliver a platform that offers sets of automated
functions delivered as services to the business which can be invoked as
needed. |
