Regional IT and communications solutions provider Fujitsu Asia has announced the launch of three new series of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk drives (HDDs) for Asean.

The MBA3 series of 3.5-inch HDDs rated at 15,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) offer storage capacities of 73.5 gigabytes (GB), 147 GB and 300 GB, while the MBB2 series of 2.5-inch 10,000 rpm HDDs is available in 73.5 GB and 147 GB versions. The MBC2 series of 2.5-inch 15,000 rpm HDDs include 36.7 GB and 73.5 GB models.

"The new SAS interface promises data-transfer speeds in future that are much higher than what current interfaces can provide. Systems configured with SAS drives can also incorporate SATA drives," said Loh Chong Shing, Regional Senior Vice President, Volume Products Group, Fujitsu Asia.

With maximum buffer sizes of 8 MB, short read and write times, the three series are designed for mission-critical server or storage system applications requiring high input/output performances, low power consumption and minimal heat dissipation.

The MBA3, MBB2 and MBC2 series will be available beginning this quarter.
