Emerson Network Power, a
business of Emerson and the supplier of network power and protection
infrastructure, has announced a joint development effort with Sun
Microsystems focused on defining and developing a high-efficiency power and
cooling infrastructure for advanced High-Performance Computing (HPC) data
centres. This initiative will enable the Sun Blade 6000 and Sun Blade 8000
server platforms to be deployed with zero impact on data centre cooling.
Said Fred Stack, Vice President of Marketing, Liebert Environmental
solutions, Emerson Network Power, "Through closer collaboration, we can take
a more holistic approach to data centre operations and together drive a
level of efficiency and performance that exceeds what either organisation
could achieve independently."
The two organisations will also collaborate on:
- Joint program validating Liebert cooling solutions' ability to eliminate
the impact of heat dissipation from the Sun Blade 6000 and Sun Blade 8000
Modular System platforms.
- The continued deployment of Liebert XD cooling systems in Sun engineering
labs, which create HPC environments for testing and development of power and
cooling technologies with future generations of Sun servers.
Sun and Emerson are also both participants in The Green Grid, which is
focused on creating a forum for companies to develop meaningful,
platform-neutral standards, measurement methods, processes and new
technologies to improve energy efficient performance of the global data
centre. |
