IGEL Technology, Germany’s
thin client vendor has set up its operations in Singapore.
Thin client computing is experiencing strong growth in the world especially
the Asia Pacific- Japan region. In 2005 alone, it recorded strong
year-on-year growth, from 171,000 units in 2004 to 280,000 units,
representing a 64 per cent expansion. With its ability to bring about cost
savings of up to 70 per cent in administration and support costs for
businesses, IGEL thin clients have been embraced by small and large
corporations in the world.
According to a survey conducted by IDC, approximately 30 to 40 percent of
system loads are not utilized by work-relevant activities. By migrating to
thin client architectures, diskless terminals are centrally administered and
their use managed by IT.
“Many users are often hampered by PC malfunction due to imprecise
configuration of their personal settings or simple user error. Thin
clienting aims to cut down maintenance time figuring out simple problems
that might have been avoided in the first place,” says Heiko Gloge, managing
director of IGEL Technology. |
