Sun Microsystems has
announced a multi-year OEM agreement with IT infrastructure provider Fujitsu
Siemens Computers to distribute the Solaris Operating System (OS) and
Solaris Subscriptions with selected Fujitsu Siemens PRIMERGY servers. The
agreement enables Fujitsu Siemens to streamline how its customers acquire
Solaris-based PRIMERGY systems and related support services by offering
Solaris with its servers from the factory.
Sun and Fujitsu Siemens Computers will work together in certifying solutions
based on Solaris and PRIMERGY hardware and the two companies will work
together to secure support from key independent software and hardware
vendors.
"Customers will now have an expanded choice of systems certified to run
Solaris as well as a simplified method for purchasing Solaris Subscriptions
with PRIMERGY servers," said Rich Green, executive vice president of
software for Sun Microsystems. "By expanding the Solaris footprint, we're
opening the door a little wider for companies - especially those in the
public sector, financial services, telecommunications, retail and healthcare
- to access the advanced scalability, reliability and virtualisation
features that are unique to the Solaris OS."
Customers selecting PRIMERGY servers powered by Solaris are able to take
advantage of Solaris 10 5/08, the latest update to Sun's Solaris 10
platform. Solaris 10 5/08 features improved performance and new
platform-tuned power management capabilities for x86-based processors from
AMD and Intel. |
